Two new patents on front-end car airflow Jul 11, 2020

The first patent is for a double-layered hood that sucks on the top of the stagnation point, shown in elevation at 0:45. It reminds me of some Ecomodder thread where it was suggested (to feed the base of the windshield not suck on the stagnation point) but the poster was shot down over interference drag and 3x skin friction.

In this case the duct is a converging/diverging hourglass shape in plan.

The second patent discloses an impractically large radiator duct that the first patent powers in a sort of Meredith Effect.

It is an interesting video, it seems a bit like an air curtain over the radiator exit when there is no flow. It wouldn't be too difficult to create a duct like that on top of a hood to promote better attachment, but what downstream effects would it have in terms of boundary layer thickness?

Or would the duct need to start in the stagnation zone to get a high enough pressure?

The later illustration shows the duct buried in the hood. To preserve the driver's sight-lines?

It definitely starts in the stagnation area — I have no idea what happens when you 'cross the streams'.

edit:
Presaging teoman: Oh look — first post [welcome]

I'm imagining a 1950 Ford, with the radiator tilted back (electric fan in front), a duct on the underside of the hood (lots of headroom with a flathead V-8) and louvers all over the back half of the hood.

Satin black with red wheels.
