Why doesn't the U.S. get good FE cars?

Here is one Ford released in Europe. Ford come on...63.57 MPG but not for North America, WTF!! Why shouldn't they make these for everywhere. And Ford is not the only one. I know a ton of people that would buy this thing.

I don't know what you're talking about. The Ford Fiesta is coming to america with a 1.6 liter gas engine in the fall of 09. The diesel won't pass US emissions.

Exactly my point the gas doesn't get 64 mpg. Thanks for proving that for me.

Cars need to meet safety and emission regs... most cars overseas aren't legal here.

Is it hard for the automaker to do some modification and sell here? I don't think so. Their decision is based on the market concern, which always buys the myth that we only want big car with big torque engine.

The thing I don't understand is how can a car like this not pass emissions when something that gets 6-15 MPG can. A 64mpg car would pump out way less than a larger car. I think it is total BS just like the EPA fuel ratings are, and how the commercials brag about a car gettin 35 MPG is something extraordinary, BIG WHOOP. Show us something good or don't show it.
Like this thing had one at work today 6 MPG and EPA approved. How much emissions does that produce?

Europe doesn't have the California Air Resources Board. If Europe had CA. CARB rules, their MPG average would drop significantly.

Sales are only falling in the US

I am working to find information on other companies, but the big three are getting destroyed in the US they are still doing alright around the world, Toyota, GM and Ford are the three biggest in the world even though GM and Ford are sucking it up in the US.
