I think these are a different series. The D4-Ds are/were pretty good for Japanese Diesels.

Sure. The 2C was an older design, with belt driven camshaft, IDI and all-mechanical injection. As a matter of curiosity, both the 2C and the 1.4L D4-D (1ND-TV) are still available for brand-new Corollas in Morocco, while in South Africa there's a 2.0L D4-D (1AD-FTV).

There's also a 2.2 here for the Avensis and Auris - I think they are made here in Derby.

The 1.4 makes more or less as much power as the 1.8 Gas engine - 90hp.

My Aygo 1.0 makes ~70hp.

The 1.8L gasser has at least 136hp. But the torque of the 1.4L D4-D makes it feel stronger...

The 1.8 in the Prius only makes 98hp.

We started talking about the Prius, then started to lurk about which Diesel from the Corolla would be suitable, so I forgot it was all about the Prius

Anyway, the 1.4L wouldn't ever feel underpowered in the Prius
