This solution works also on todays cars. That cover pops out when you start wiping your windshield. You just have to make it yourself .

windshield wipers

These wiper blades came with an offset bracket (approx 3/4 of an inch on centers). This allowed me to index my wiper arms down even further. When parked at the bottom of windshield they are almost completely out of the wind stream.

I have a 73 Dodge van and I pulled the park wire off the wiper motor about 35 years ago so I could stop the movement anywhere I wanted. Haven't a clue as to how you do it on these "newer" units.

My initial reason for doing it was simply to be able to easily park the wipers at about a 45-60 degree angle to hold a "frost shield". Later I started parking them verticially on road trips and it seemed to make a difference in some conditions in regards to wind noise and perhaps some mpg improvement but would not be able to verify that. Windshield really blows clear in the rain when this is combined with rain-x.

But not nearly as much wind noise reduction or mpg improvement as adjusting the big stock mirrors to a horizontal position (this is a very noticeable improvement and almost like a mirror delete by comparison to the stock speed brake mirrors.) I had small rectangular convex mirrors attached to the lower edge of the big mirrors and they were more than adequate when out on the highway.

Lost the sweet little convex mirrors recently and haven't found replacements.

It looks like a Seat (Spanish automaker).

If you'll use Search EcoModder above, for 'Flow-Images',in Photo-Gallery 3 at the bottom right is an image of the Jetta in the VW wind tunnel. The image is small (sorry),but if you look, you'll see that the air is basically passing over the wipers, not really touching them.

I have changed the wiper arms and blades on my focus to 'aero' flat blades with the wiper arms from a VW Polo (approx 2001 to 2005 years I think). They now sit well out of the airflow with only a small part of the arm visible when looking up the bonnet line.

Als this company Ford FOCUS 1998-2001 / 2001-2003 - JDL bonnet extension - www.jdltuning.com makes a bonnet extension that will fill the gap and direct airflow over the blades. Looking at the images though I think it may kick the airflow up at too high an angle for improved aero??
