Replying to myself again, but I thought this video covers a number of points — pieces and parts, and pitfalls. The 5-15min startup time and finicky shutdown, & etc. It shows
  • tanks and half-tracks
  • trucks, buses and tractors
  • sedans
  • stationary APUs

I like the idea of a British Lister diesel stationary engine with a polyphase DC generator feeding a buck/boost circuit and a Lithium-ion battery bank.

Do you mean that Rootes-Lister TS3 engine? Had it ever been available in the U.S.?

First I heard of them was someone who was ordering one in from India. The idea appeals to me because it marries bullet-proof 1930s British engineering with rare-earth magnet Field Oriented Control electrics.

Those old-school stationary/industrial engines are not bad at all, and their rather narrow RPM band actually make them reasonable for a range-extender, but the weight penalty is quite serious for an automotive application.

The first iteration of a gasifier I will try to fit on a two-wheel/walking tractor like this, or i'll build one using a ATV drivetrain

(Finland is full of Chinese ATVs with Honda's Gorilla/Monkey/DAX/Z50-type 110CC engines)

It would make a fun thing to use as a tool for hauling agricultural stuff.

And it's road legal in finland if it goes max 15Km/h (I could fit the gasifier on the trailer for driving on the road, and run the engine on E85 off-trailer)

The gearing would be pretty low, so the road consumption would be better if a small pellet/chip gasifier did the job on the max 10km drivings i'd do.

And if the expensive car tax reform happens here, i'll import a Piaggio APE and modify it too with a engine swap...
