I guess we will know next week what a land war in Europe does to gas prices.

Winter 2022 heating has started. Yesterday I warmed up the house a bit by burning the paper and card board trash I started saving from late July or early august.

I'm thinking it's time to use the coal furnace for water heating. A propylene glycol loop that won't freeze and an old hot water heater seems like the way to go.

This appears to be the correct thread for this:
I think it's a good backgrounder on the rocket stove concept and general design considerations for various use cases.
I was extra-specially pleased when at ?t=214 he cites Aprevecho Institute. Because they are in Cottage Gove, OR.
Aprovecho Research Center- testing and improving biomass cookstoves
[surpising that they are not HTTPS. Browse at your own risk]

I have their Firefly cookstove/lantern, but it's stored in a bug-out bag so it doesn't get much use. I really like the Argand lamp he has on the desk. It's very similar but from 1780 and solid brass.

I thought that's what you have.
Does it incorporate a pyrolyzer?

Soaking ready to burn fire wood in used motor oil works very well.
The logs are soaking up way more oil than I thought they would and burn the oil off at a nice slow rate that doesn't make for a smoky fire.
A lot of it depends on how long the logs soak and how long they sit out of the oil and absorb the oil deep into the wood. .

I guess you have some sort of process where the loose oil collects? My only other concern is burning heavy metal contaminants and breathing the fumes but it's probably windy and you have no close neighbors

The main heavy metals in used motor oil is zinc.
Drinking water in Michigan urban areas typically contains more lead than my used motor oil.
