How about Subaru's automagic braking technology?

The current Forester has an EPA rating that I envied with my '99.

I once saw an SUV all alone in the middle of an intersection without a scratch on it—upside down resting on the nose of the hood and the windshield header. I wish I'd had a camera at the time.

Of course I also saw a VW Beetle balanced on a phone pole guy wire, with the left rear corner on the ground and the right front corner eight feet in the air.

In both cases they were abandoned with no-one around. I carry a camera everywhere now, but haven't seen things like that.

"If you can read this turn me over."

When I was in the one-time Republic of South Vietnam, I saw one of those plywood-sided APC with a smoking crater exactly where the white star (with a circle around it!) on the side used to be.

Before I had a phone with a camera, it seemed like interesting things never happened when I carried a camera.

No, it's more that the tools you have dictate your thoughts and behavior.

Like a cop who is given a wide assortment of weapons and extensive training in exactly how to use them, but never gets training on how to maintain order without the use of confrontation and weapons. Or in this thread, a driver who is trained in parallel parking and understanding traffic signals but not how to actually drive. They think the only way to drive safely is to either go unreasonably slowly or be in something large. Nobody can sell you safe habits and driving slow is for sissies, so they buy something large and feel perfectly safe.

Even in crossover SUVs based either in a compact car or in a minivan platform, people seem to drive in an over-confident manner, and they don't really have the alleged size "advantage".
