my first thought when reading the last post:
speeding up to take a picture would waste an awful lot of gas...

You might be an ecomodder if your first questions to your two friends that just bought brand new 2010 Mustang GT and loaded 2010 Camereo Z's is:"How Many Miles Per Gallon Do You-All Get?"
These types of questions may lead to black eyes so it may be best to ask the question on a cell phone instead of in person.
I actually did that one time. A guy I barely new had just bought a real fast sports car, and my only question for him was "What kind of fuel economy do you get from it? I thought for a second he was going to HIT ME! HE cussed a few words and threw his arms up in the air and took somebody out to show off how fast it would go. For some reason he never offered to take me for a drive in his car. What a pitty...

My father is in his 70s, healthy as a goat. He retired from Chevy and still knows many workers there. Well as you might imagine he is NOT to fond of any car that is not mostly made in America by American Management, and there is nothing any of us can do to talk him away from that sort of thinking. So when I mentioned to him the Toyota Prius 3rd Generation was on target to sell 400,000 cars for next year he called it a lie and demanded to know my source. But that's the problem, we have multiple sources that back the 2010 Prius hybrid at 400,000 cars for the 2010 model. Dad is stubborn. I am not even allowed to park a non American car in his driveway, and this played a big part in me buying the Cobalt XFE- it would of tore my UAW family apart if I had paid for a Hybrid made in Japan. I would of been dis-owned, and I would hate to have my 73 year old father do that NOW! I do love technology and I love Hybrids.

I probably would have refused the ride, unless there was no way out. If I had a vile sense of humor (which I often do, and it's gotten me into trouble on a few occasions) I'd tell him that the car will get even worse fe (and acceleration too!) with my weight in it.

From what I read, the Prius 3rd gen IS to be made in America.
And plenty of big 3 parts (and even entire assembly plants) are outsourced (remember Roger and Me)
Not that I think for a second it would change his mind.

I worked my parents in slowly on this one. My folks (Dad especially) has been die-hard GM since his '40 Ford blew a transmission in 1956. Then Northeastern Ohio jobs were lost to foreign brands, so, I grew up with the influence of American iron, Foreign junk.
After heading out on my own (and my Beretta blew a head gasket on its Quad-4), I drove a few cars. My college room-mate's '95 Accord 5-speed sold me right away. I went and decided to buy a Civic. It was the best brand transitions I've made to date.
What sealed the deal was that the Civic I was considering was made down the road near Columbus, Ohio. Granted, non-Union, and foreign owned, but a big revenue generator for the State and Local communities. It got the blessing and now he's asked me a few times about which Honda I would recommend for him as a daily driver
