and the Zing, the title of this frigging thread, would be an even bigger improvement yet.
One thing I seriously dislilke about this site is the tailgunner barstool twits who snipe at those of us who actually DO.
It takes gumption and ambition to tackle a big project, and the tailgunners who kibitz onto the doers threads detracts from doers posting useful information and support.

OK, then why do people buy the Prius, or other high-mpg cars, at all? They obviously don't save money by buying new cars. Why do people with money buy the Tesla, when they could get essentially the same performance from a Lotus?

You can't run out and buy a Zing and not everybody can go out to the driveway and put one together either.

PLEASE let this get to market!
This is what I've been waiting for, for years! With a 52 mile commute this is perfect.

I think it's a thin skin that is adversely affected by your so-called tail-gunning. Others call it constructive criticism. Time to get used to the internets.

I'd like to know what pancake motors you're considering...
Thanks,

I have a tandem 2-seater in my sketchbook, with 20-25 hp (peak) pancake motors at each wheel (reverse trike and 4-wheeler). Good to know that I'm in the same ballpark hp wise. Actually a bit over, but my body shell I imagine to be F1 style and very strong but heavier compared to composite or fiberglass shell construction..
There is something Burt Rutan-ish about the Zing, I mean that as a complement.
Good to know that it will be 5 inches taller and with a back seat.
In my "dream machine" it would eventually have a bio-Diesel mini turbine generator for longer trips. I can dream, can't I?

Hi Doug,
Incredibly slowly. Making progress, but sourcing a few key pieces in low volume but not astronomical price has been tricky. Then there is my tendency toward perfectionism and endless analysis.
I've had my own businesses for decades, and for most of that time have had very large clients, for whom I would write up a proposal in great detail, often running to 20 pages or more. Once started on the project, it is just a matter of following the plan, and answering to the client. But in this project, it's like having two people in the shop: Ken Fry, the guy who just wants to get stuff done, and who keeps his head down. Then there's Ken Fry the guy with big ideas and waving arms who interrupts the other guy with stuff to look into: "Couldn't we get 5% better efficiency if we just...? Shouldn't we enter this biz plan competition? Shouldn't you be out driving around in the proof-of-concept? "
Makes me want to shoot em both.
I hope your project is going well.
Ken
