As James said why do you care about the battery cost?
Because people then try to draw analogies about the cost of the rest of the car off fictional data.
That "battery" price is for owner replacement just like 1st gen volt.
You will likely never be able to buy a bolt battery off the shelf of a local Chevy dealer.
The overall price of the entire LG bolt package is much higher than the subsidized cost of the out of warranty replacement fee for a battery.
That boutique cost matters because you will find the price for the rest of the car is well under 10k when you subtract the lg costs out.

The EPA range rating for the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV is 238 miles! Which is an excellent achievement. And some journalists have driven them, and confirmed it:
2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV first drive: 240 miles in an electric car
This is under $30K (after federal incentives) for a ~238 mile EV. That is a game changer.

DC fast charging option is only $750 for the Spark EV so I assume it would be similar for the bolt which would make it a no brainer. A 50 kW charge station would add 200 miles in an hour.

Bolt EV MSRP
The 236 mpc-range Chevy Bolt will cost $2,495 more than the Tesla Model 3. The price starting at $37,495 but with fed and state rebates, credits and incentives, the cost of getting an entry-level California Bolt EV could be less than $30,000!

Slight correction: 238 mile range. The $37,495 price for the Bolt EV LT model includes the D&H charge, which is $875, if I am remembering correctly.

The Premier model is $41,780, also before incentives. I believe that CCS is a $750 option on either model - which is a disappointment, really. But, the Bolt EV will be the next car my family takes a serious look at. |

This is relevant to my interests. The upcoming Tesla 3 is not. Mainly for one single reason:
HATCHBACK.
I love driving a hatchback. For cargo, it's more than twice the car my old sedan was, while being roughly the same size. I've carried lumber, hay bales, dresser, lazy-boy recliner, as many boxes as my moving friend's F150, a sheep, a wheelbarrow.
