So the MotorTrend emissions analytic team found the Bolt to be more efficient in Drive mode "L".
.
The Bolt scores 118 mpg-e combined on the Real MPG cycle in Drive mode (1 mpg shy of the EPA figure) and 121 mpg-e in Low. Emissions Analytics estimates the Bolt’s range to be 210 miles in Drive and 222 miles in Low; the former converts to 238 miles on the more liberal EPA cycle and the latter 246 miles. The Model S scores 101 mpg-e combined on the Real MPG cycle (2 better than the EPA figure), good for 200 miles of range.

The Bolt might get some better results, but I still prefer the Tesla. Maybe that's just my European senses being fussy, but I prefer the smaller sedan look without the Bolt's fat lip. Although that's in comparison to the S. If it's between the Bolt and the upcoming Tesla 3, I think the Bolt has its advantages.

I would prefer the bolt guts in an ev1 myself, instant 300+ mile range

Most people want four doors. Maybe a two seater will come next. But then again a vehicle that already gets 150mpgE will feel no pressure to improve on that for a long time.

Electric rates are no longer 1/10 the price of gas in many areas, so electric efficiency is rather important compared to even 5 years ago

Maybe, but at the same price point, a vehicle with 25 or 50% less drag will have more range. It's no longer just a matter of how much you pay at the pump, you're limiting your driving range.

This. This all day.
When my boys move out, I won't need four seats. 200 miles will be more than enough, 300 will eliminate any possibility of range anxiety. Featherweight chassis, super-slippery design, and no one ever asking if I can help them move? Yes, please.

There are so few of "us guys". The original Insight was our dream car but only sold of few thousand units in it's six year run. Cars like the Volkswagon XL1 always turn out to be unobtainium,
