The 2017 Chevy Bolt production pics

GM's next long range electric vehicle, the 2017 Chevy Bolt. It is GM's effort for an affordable $30,000 EV with a (LG Chem batteries) 200 mile range. It has the 'floating roof' design (BMW i3 and current Nissan designs) and some exterior GM details from its stablemate, Chevy Volt. It is a more upright, small CUV/hatchback/sedan design language, primarily designed to be a versatile utilitarian for an American family.

Here's the production Chevy Bolt

It reminds me of a Honda Fit. Which is a good thing.

We had the Volt in the UK as the Vauxhall Ampera, it sold despite manufacturer and dealer apathy towards it. I understand we won't be getting a rebadged Bolt in RHD.

A genuine 200 mile EV should be a roaring success. A longer range than a Nissan Leaf, cheaper than a Tesla.

I can't wait for CES this year as several cars have details coming out then. Funny that they release the details at the Consumer Electronics Show instead of an auto show.

The Chevy Bolt, Gamma-platform

You could probably go to your nearest Buick dealership and size up the Buick Encore (or Opel Mokka for our Euro followers), if you want to approximately gauge the exterior size and interior space of the new Chevy Bolt. The GM Gamma-based platform includes the Buick Encore, Opel Mokka, Chevy Trax, Chevy Aveo and Chevy Sonic.

I think GM is trying to make it look like a "normal" car. I believe this is a major gaff that both Nissan and Mitsubishi committed that likely hurt sales.

I'm pleasantly surprised that this car looks like.. well, a car.
