Hey Paul!
I received the 500 amp controller two days after you shipped it, however I am just getting around to checking it out. Very well packaged. Thansk for shipping it so fast.
Had a couple of questions. As far as I can tell, the green led was the only thing missing. I am placing an order to mouser for some other items anyway and wanted to ask if the 859-LTL-307G (green LED, mouser part #) is the correct one to use. I can't see having you ship a 20 cent part, it would cost more to ship than the part is worth.
Second question: If I wanted to make all my connections to the control board using connectors (I know you said earlier that soldering the wires to the board is more reliable), what connector (plug, socket and pins) would you use for J1 on the control board? I am not going to use a connector for G1 - G10 or PH 1 and PH2. That might cause some problems.

That's disturbing about the LED. All I do is order the same set of components each time for the control board. It's a saved cart. That means Mouser is trying to pull a fast one. Those stinkers. I really don't mind sending you one. Maybe I should stop trusting that I'm getting everything I order.
I would use this part for a connector on J1:

It's no big deal. I've ordered from Jameco and Digikey in the past and they forgot to put all the parts in (like ordering 25 of something and only get 24). It happens!
Thanks for the connector info. I can probably find the female connector, but do you have a number for the pins?

The 1000 Amp Diesel/Electric Plug-In Hybrid Pickup Truck is just WAITING for one of those controllers!
Planning on driving it around like Michigan on less than one tank of bio-diesel/veggie oil.

paul, you should have a motor sometime wednesday, i dropped it at fedex today but it was after the cut-off so it won't ship till tomorrow. i used the address u gave me earlier. i also put in a controller so you can test it if you want to. the controller takes a 60 hz pulse, with a 1mS - 2mS pulse width. the brown wire should gets grounded, and the red wire should be connected to 5 volts. the yellow (or maybe orange) wire is the signal wire. i have limited the amplitude of the pulse signal to like 2 volts on the board i built for controlling mine.
i'm controlling mine with a board built out of a pair of 555 timers, but a function generator should work perfectly for bench testing. if you use a 2Vpp pulse, offset it by 1 volt positive so the bottom of it looks like ground.

rev2c controller in service!
Hey Paul, wanted to let you know that I am officially running a cougar controller in my '96 saturn conversion. Drove a 24v on-street test run today and have been using it at 12v to pull into the shop for several weeks. It's working so now i guess i have to finish this car! Without your controller project I probably would not have done this conversion - Thank You.

Paul,
I have been going through the 500 Amp controller kit you sent me and went to the wiki to get the schematic. I assume I have the Rev 2D kit and the schematics for it are no longer available. I do have a schematic for Rev 2B and Rev 2C. Could you tell me what changes were made from Rev 2C to Rev 2D? Or is the schematic entirely different for Rev 2D?
Oh, I ordered the green LED for the control board so don't send it!
