Haha, that would be quite fun. However, the Metro really is an economy daily commuter for me. I have other projects that are more fun oriented, as well as my motorcycle that is much more peppy to ride.

For purposes of documenting the Metroventure (metro adventure), I'm going to share my dumb mistake while welding up the Metro rocker panels. The actual post is here:

http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...tml#post497863

Quote:
Welllllllllll, I screwed up. Yesterday I went to start my car and it cranked but never fired. My wife took me to work and I got a ride home from a coworker. I spent the night working on the car trying to figure out what the heck went wrong while I was working on it... Finally at 9:30 I checked the area where I had been working (huge duh) and found this. That part of the loom was resting against an area where I had welded...

It was a mess all melted together. So I slowly pulled each wire apart. Thankfully, only one was actually broken. So, I soldered it back together.

I then grabbed my roll of electrical tape and went to work repairing the insulation around the rest of the wires.

Lastly, I re-bundled the mess of wires with more tape.

The Metro is alive once again. Hurray.

Trying to keep my build thread updated here.

A little while back I added a voltmeter due to my scangauge voltmeter being horribly off. The new one isn't super accurate. It has ad adjustment on it and I got that dialed in, but I also noticed it doesn't scale properly... oh well, its closer than the SG and frees up a gauge.

More info: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...tml#post501370

I mounted the voltmeter in a newly printed gauge pod I made up for it.

Yay, a Metro update.

So, as things have been getting colder, I've been noticing that my heat hasn't been blowing quite as hot as it did last year. So, I've been thinking about flushing the heater core out and today was the day to do it. It was a blissful 25F and sunny out. While I was expecting to freeze my butt off, it actually wasn't all that bad.

So, lets get down to business. Here is the patient and the operating table for today. The Jetta is currently immobile in the garage, so I get the snowy driveway to work in yay.

Thankfully, Suzuki knew of my predicament 16 years in advance (what foresight!) and conveniently placed the heater core lines in a very easy to reach place. The two hoses going into the firewall in the middle of the picture are what you're looking for.

So, I removed the hoses and drained the coolant into a pan.

The next step involves looking like a complete nutcase to your neighbor(s). Go grab the garden hose and hook it up!

Thankfully, I've had this radiator flush kit sitting on my shelf for jeez at least 5 years now. It turns out its really handy. It hooks up to the garden hose and with some 5/8" radiator hose conveniently hooks up to the heater core.

Since I was doing things solo, I didn't get a chance to see all the gunk come out of the heater core. I did flush it and then backflush it (water in the other side). I also went ahead and flushed the block and the radiator while I was at it. For those of you wondering, the answer is yes. There is a huge chunk of ice in my driveway now.

So, time to button things up and fill it up with coolant, right? Nope. Buddy, this here is EcoModder and we don't do things that way. We add a 1000W Kats block heater while we are at it.

I'm not going to get too far into this because bbsjw10 did a great write up on a Metro block heater install that I pretty much just copied.

Okay, so now we refill the coolant and make sure everything works good, and it does. The heat blows a good amount warmer now which is really great for defrosting windshields and fingers!

Also, more for my record keeping than anything I also fixed my really not amazing grill block. The zip tie broke, so I replaced it. The passenger side block has been gone for quite some time.

She's purty! Nice write up, too. Made the flush look super simple. Good on ya going out in the cold. I was working on my wife's exhaust system today, crawling under. but it was like 60 degrees. I kinda got a little sweaty getting the center pipe off. hehe.

Nice to see another circulating tank heater install. I'm hoping to save flushing my system until spring.

Ps: that looks like where I do all my car work too!

Pletby, your post reminded me that I had the block heater sitting on the shelf, so thanks.

I also had my last fill up for the year yesterday. I haven't had my SG installed for most of the tank (borrowed to other people) and my mileage slipped to just under 50 mpg at 49.4 mpg. I hope to gain that back. I'd really like to stay over 50 mpg all winter.

I polished the headlights on the Metro again. The last time was with spar urethane UV protection after polishing the headlights. This time I used a Duplicolor headlight restoration kit consisting of a polish and a UV protection both in little spray cans. We'll see how it holds up.

After

Nice look. Didn't know there was a spray solution now. Interesting. Thx.
