Sadly no, I didn't get a chance to check the timing yet.

I've been avoiding driving the Metro lately, I take the motorcycle instead. Its definitely getting worse. It has issues starting so much that I pretty much don't kill it at lights anymore. I'm looking into rebuilding the engine.

Dang! Sorry to hear that Doax. Can you find a decent engine out of another Geo to swap in, or would you rather just rebuild if your going to have to pull it out anyway?

Its going to come down to time and cost for me. If I can nab an engine for a good price I'd go that way, otherwise I'll probably rebuild hoping that there isn't anything major wrong. In either case, I want to minimize downtime.
With either option I don't really want to exceed spending a few hundred dollars. The parts for the Metro are ridiculous cheap and I think that is quite doable.

I haven't really been driving the Metro at all lately with the issues its been having, plus the bike is more fun. I went to drive it last night and it wouldn't even start. Crank crank crank, no fire. Now I'm thinking it might be more of an ignition issue than compression. Time to check that my kill switch mod isn't mucking things up.

Bingo, bad kill switch. I think the switch itself is dying. I used my kill switch bypass mod that I installed here, and it fired up.
First time commuting with the car (boo rainy day) in a while was today. Everything was going good, then all of a sudden I couldn't bump start the car. I put on the 4 ways and pull over a bit, open the glove box, flip the switch and bump start again and it fires right up. So, it looks like the switch is on its way out. Rated for half a million cycles.... I'm sure I haven't killed the car THAT many times... yet.

Daox, I have had a fair amount of trouble with kill switches also. The fix was always something to do with a bad ground, It seems the fuel pump relay is very sensitive about a strong ground. Once I made sure all connectors in the circuit were bullet-proof, all problems with an erratic kill switch ended.

I have killed many a kill switch...
Arcing is what kills them, it welds them shut.
If you let the engine return to idle before killing it (injector signal is less intense), your switches will last longer.

Thanks for the tips guys. My switch is soldered into the ECU wiring. There is no grounding in my case. It interrupts the camshaft sensor signal to the ECU.
Good to know I'm not the only one Redneck! I'll solder in a new one and see how that does.

LOL bought a cheap grinder from HF and the first time I turned it on it would not turn off. Returned it and they wanted to test it. Go ahead just make sure your clear when it starts running the instant you plug it in and you can only stop it by pulling the plug.
Chinese translation of 1 million cycles, "Yeah right buddy".
