If you are fabricating wheelskirts be sure to use Trump ones for the left side and Clinton for the right side. That will make it run like hell.

Today I got to do some slow fuel-economy driving to and from work. I reset one of the FCDs before I left in the morning. When I got home at night it read 60.1 mpg. I know from my fuel log that the display is a little optimistic, but I felt good that I was able to push it that high.

Anyone ever put a trailer on this car? Owners manual says don't do it. On IC they are all like, "towing will wreck the CVT," which makes sense to me, but I occasionally need to move something bulky less than 50 miles. And when I Uber or Lyft drive, I might get 4 passengers in the car who are going to combined weigh like 500 pounds or more... I'm not trying to tow that much in weight. I was thinking of a mini trailer for like a futon or a dryer.

Am I crazy, or is the transmission really that weak?

If the total rig is under GVWR and not at high speeds, I'd do it.

Can you get a proper hitch for it?

Honda's CVTs are notoriously weak, and tend to be what sends most of cars with them to the scrapyards. I'm thinking towing 2-400lbs would be pretty much a non-issue though.

I seriously doubt that the CVT could be damaged by towing.
I thought the concern was about having the hitch mount points in the same area as the hybrid battery, which could cause problems in a collision.

CVTs do fail when a bearing fails or when the CVT oil was either changed with the wrong type or not at all.

Maybe accelerating uphill at WOT with a heavy load can damage it?
If you avoid using full throttle at low speeds (which puts most stress on the belt and pulleys) you're good.

I don't see how damage can occur to a transmission from towing. The engine puts out X amount of torque. That is all the transmission ever has to deal with. It simply can't put out more torque than it was designed for. Strapping a trailer or packing in hundreds of pounds of whatever into the car does not change this. What COULD happen is the cooling system for the transmission wasn't designed for sustained higher heat loads from hauling around more weight than it was designed for. So, keeping this in mind, you'd either want to monitor the trans temp, or just take it easy so you know you're not over stressing the cooling system for the transmission.

The only other things I can think of to consider when towing is chassis structural strength, tongue weight, and braking power / capacity / cooling.

If I installed a transmission fluid thermometer would the bottom of the pan where it pools be a good place for it? Like at the bottom of one of the sides.

While the extra load won't increase the torque going through the transmission, Having that torque present more often will increase transmission wear. Won't break, but will wear faster. But that's only a concern if towing frequently. If towing is 1% of total driving, I agree heat is the only real concern. And that will only be an issue up hills or at high speeds.
