www.theverge.com: Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi finally say they will use Tesla’s EV charging plug

Quote:
VW is one of the last major automakers to bend the knee to Tesla’s superior charging network. Now, only Stellantis remains uncommitted.

' bend the knee '

Funny how the ' Tesla-killers', with their hubris-centric journalistic dominance rituals, have now laid down, exposing their corporate under-bellies, and collectively praying that they'll be able to save their 'legacy' brands amidst the presence of a truly 'alpha' automaker.
Stay tuned for the 'Corolla-Killer' BEV. It'll be game over for 'pistons'.

I finally learned what Cd is a ratio of. The video explains a value of 1 is given to a theoretical 2-dimensional frontal shape. The Cd is the percentage of the theoretical worst shape given that objects have depth that decrease aerodynamic drag.

Let's ask aerohead.

Note the 'from Hucho' in upper left.

I actually saw my first cybertruck today on I90. It went past me at probably 80mph with the back cover open enough to see out of. It was 100 miles to the next supercharger so they seemed confident with range. There was a Chevy duramax dually following them with a gooseneck flatbed so maybe not that confident LOL.

I cringe driving a fairly efficient car at 80 MPH, and would cringe more driving an EV truck at those speeds. Then again, electricity is so cheap I wouldn't care how inefficient it is so long as I can easily make it to the charger.

I'd be 'figuring' from Cd 1.17, but it doesn't matter as long as the premise is reported, as Gary has done in the video. It's said that, some aeronautical engineers are found to adhere to the Cd 1.0 for a flat-plate, perpendicular to the airstream.
Aeronautical engineer Larry Mauro uses Cd 1.0 in his aircraft and solar race car designing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The drag table is from Hucho's 2nd-Edition, Aerodynamics of Road Vehicles, who is citing Sighard Hoerner's, 1965, Aerodynamic Drag.
NOTE:
The 'Streamlined body l/D = 2,5, 3rd from the bottom of the table is what all three of the aerodynamic streamlining templates are based upon.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With respect to CYBERTRUCK, what was gleaned from Spirit of EcoModder.com's two trips to the DARKO Wind Tunnel ( sister tunnel to the A2 ):
1) 'Spirit' was capable of as low as Cd 0.1675 @ DARKO.
2) Cd 0.1528 @ A2 ( based on Prius-III Toyota' full-scale wind tunnel blockage-ratio correction factor, inter-tunnel comparisons ).
3) And Cd 0.1469 @ Toyota's full-scale wind tunnel ( by same factor ).
4) Essentially a 'GAC Eno.146' of pickup trucks.
The plan is to compare A2 values, and perhaps do the Aerodyne Wind Tunnel as well, with wheel rotation, larger test section area ( reduced blockage-ratio % ), and floor boundary-layer suctioned off.

' A2 Tunnel CYBERTRUCK test data '

I watched the video where I could expand the screen dimensions.
* A frontal area of 33.0 square-feet ( 3.0658-meters-squared ),was used
* Test section airspeed was calculated @ 65-MPH / 95.33144225- feet/second / 104.607 km/h
* A 'ceiling' setting of '5.3' was used throughout all the testing
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) 'Low' ground clearance = Cd 0.387, drag = 138.0-pounds
2) 'Med' ground clearance = Cd 0.405, drag = 144.6-pounds
3) 'High' = Cd 0.442, drag = 157.8-pounds
4) 'Off-Road' = Cd 0.470, drag = 167.6-pounds
5) 'Extract' = Cd 0.535, drag = 190.9-pounds
6) 'Low', with Tonneau Open = Cd 0.424, 151.3-pounds
7) 'Low', with Tonneau 'Open', and Tailgate 'Open' = Cd 0.413, drag = 147.2-pounds
8) 'Low', with Tonneau 'Closed', and Tailgate 'Closed' = Cd 0.382, drag = 136.2-pounds
9) 'Low', with Tonneau 'Closed', Tailgate 'Closed', and mirror-delete = Cd 0.391, drag = 139.4-pounds
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I left the Horsepower requirements off. There's a 'rounding' in the reported HPs vs their associated drag values. Feel free to explore those on your own.
