So, got some coroplast at a local shop. $20 for a 4'x8'. Not bad at all.

You did better than me. $20 is a fair price.

This is the closest thread that I have seen for modifying Saturn cars. I have an '07 Ion 2 and was always wandering what can be done for these cars. I do have one question though. What are the spats for and how hard is it to mount? I to am wanting to keep my car is OEM as possible, but do all that I can to get the most MPG for my $$.

I have a SL2 and you are my new hero Alex. I was hoping you would hit 60 mpg. Let us know so we can celebrate.

Hey all,

So I was a bit busy this weekend... Put on the full smooth belly pan on the car. A little aluminum and coroplast goes a long way. I will record any changes. Also can take some photos if anyone is interested.

Unfortunately its getting a little cold, so I am am afraid efficiency will drop a little.

The wheel spats are basically a way of deflecting air from hitting the leading edge of the tires front and back. Directing the air around or under is better than head on. They are supper easy to mount. That was the first mod I did. 20 minutes to make and mount. Let me know if you want some better shots of them.

Ok here are some pics of the most current updates.

I installed the lower partial grill block. Will watch temperatures and make sure everything is good.

Open in center for partial flow:

Full under belly pan. I did notice longer coast times, and maintained speeds.

Next I constructed a rear diffuser out of coroplast. I mounted it tonight.

Also visible above is the belly pan which goes all the way back.

I averaged 52 MPG on the way to work today, without the diffuser or lower grill block.
Aside from the trunk lid extension, I think the mods are at their peak. Not much more I can do. Aside from rear wheel skirts, which I wont do; they will never look OEM.

If you ever get the car raised up on a lift would be neat to see pictures of the belly pan in all it's glory.
