I finally decided to list some of my car's specs on the side of the boattail to educate people about my "funny looking car" but if it increases the amount of rubbernecking traffic too much, I'll remove the message.

I would NOT post the top speed in big bold letters attesting to you "testing" this specification.... might be a big of a target for the law in that case....
and I dont think the general public will know what "cd=0.17" means, I dont dont think most gearheads will either. maybe something like "this funny tail make me 2x as slippery" or something to that effect.

Why would a listed max speed be a target for the law? There exist test tracks where such higher speeds can be measured. Michelin Tire has a big test track complex not too far from here. If it causes my car to attract more than the usual amount of police interest, I'll remove it. So far, one person read it and was asking me questions about the car when I stopped at a gas station.

Quick question, since I am doing the same, do you get pulled over a lot for not having both side mirrors or not really?

I have a much newer car (2007) and I am young, so I dont know if that will make cops think that I did it for "speed" or "looking good" as opposed to an older person

Check your local laws, they're the first to worry about. Federal states that you only have to have 1, but local traffic laws are "in addition" to federal preparations.

This also means that just because the local doesn't say you can't do it, doesn't mean federal won't slap you for it.

Typically, only one exterior mirror is necessary, but they may also pull the "OEM equipment" BS on you, which states that if it was there from the OEM (and a single mirror wasn't available) that it still needs to be there.

The cops never pulled me over for my mirrors. Each time they pulled me over, I would ask them if there is anything illegal about my car. Even though they were standing there right next to my door, they never said a thing about the mirrors. I haven't been pulled over in quite some time now.

In SC, you only have to have external side mirrors if your internal mirror's rear view is blocked.

And you may have just calculated the theoretical max mph without testing it.

Displaying it is just freedom of speech and such a content shouldn't be illegal.

At worse it can make think the smarter people so I would let it.

Congrats for all your work and sharing

Denis.

I think max speed is an opening for gear-heads to be acquainted with the notion that shape is a "performance" issue. Many local guys don't fully react to the T-100 until they learn how fast it will go. I think you should keep that info available to the motoring public. It shakes the "girly-man" foundations and plants a seed toward rational "style."

That's the reason that I listed the max speed. You have this stereotype of an ecocar as being a wimpy thing that can barely break 70mph. I beg to differ. Drag reduction yields improved high speed performance and higher FE. Its your choice as to which side of the performance window you wish to push.
