Anyone gets >40mpg consistently in his/her xb?

I havnt EOC'd in the longest time... after getting the new GPS unit and not having it hardwired into the car I didnt really want to risk turning it off, but I do get a ton of neutral coasting in every day, with DM being very hilly it really works into my favor...

43mpg without EOC?!!! You are great!! What speed you usually drive on freeway? Hopefully, I can learn some tricks from you.

EOC isn't always needed, especially if the opportunity only lasts a mile at a time.

I would prefer to add aero mods as with the blue tape but I admire my car's look, believe it or not.

yeah. I agree. EOC benefits the most on long slightly downhill with 40mph limit or under. Higher speed requires steeper slope to maintain speed. Without long coasting, I still think it doesn't worth the extra wear in clutch or starter.

It works great if you can turn the car off and reach your destination with EOC, I can almost get to a friend's house after 1 mile of EOC, but the gravel road kills my coast!

I should have consistently hypermiled, my average mpg needs to be higher.

Keep on going!!! My half tank is 230miles yesterday. no EOC, still idle at light (no 3way long lights), a lot of city driving, jam at traffic for 30 minutes in 101 SF downtown.... Not too bad for 230miles. Now, I am driving 60mph only. I hope still getting >40mpg.... By the way, 60mph is the slowest speed on hwy 24 .... even passed by a 80 years old senior and countless trucks.

I don't mind going 60, its a lot more relaxing and the wind noise is reduced.

I'm really stymied (furious??) as to why Toyota chose a *higher* 5th gear ratio for manual (.86) than 4th gear for automatic (.70). The automatics are rated 1-2 mpg better than manual as a result.

I've seen several mentions of a taller ration for the Echo. The places I've looked I'm finding Echo tranny has same ratio as xB. Where am I missing?

I've seen mention of a Levin ae111 6 spd, but the details seem to suggest its final gear ratio is the same as the standard 5 spd?

I saw in this thread using 17" wheels, but negated the larger rims using thinner tires yielding a slightly smaller final diameter. I also saw going from a 160 to a 165 dropping the final rpm at 60mph, and no mention of starting to scrape the wheel wells? I'm contemplating 16" alloy rims and taller tires but would like to know what experience folks are having with larger final diameter.

I have yet to do an mpg compute.
