Might do OK in a car. If the motors are cheap and easy to replace then a shorten life might not be a deal breaker.

I almost canceled my investment after reading this thread, but you guys are wrong. I asked the company and Chris says they will have physical steering linkages as well as torque vectoring to improve handling and allow for an extremely tight turning radius at low speed.

I think they look pretty sweet.

0-60 in 3.5 seconds puts the all-wheel drive option ahead of a $70,000 hellcat in speed and the aptera is claiming 2.5x the MPGe of a model 3.

Ya, I was under the same impression at first. But as I read further into the thread I saw that it had to be both physical linkage steering with the aid of torque vectoring. It's a pretty neat idea.

They show 4 different parts, presumably Aptera use the M700. They have an M1100 rated at 2 tons/wheel.

Coupled with Elaphe’s powertrain electronics and HMI, it offers an ideal platform for the next generation of light-weight, efficient and modular electric vehicle powertrain designs.

So Elaphe or Aptera might control the torque vectoring, The article does state that:

Not all automakers agree about whether in-wheel motor technology has matured to the level of durability expected for production cars, but its adoption is expected to accelerate as demand for urban mobility solutions increases.

Hub motors could likely survive in urban driving.
75mph pot holes and other high speed driving appears to destroy them.
But then you are spending money on a car that's 15 years newer than my leaf, costs close to the same and is less capable. Might as well spend $5000 more and get a car that can carry more people and cargo and go on the highway.
