I would just spend the 150$ and buy a 30 ton press from harbor freight. It looks as it will work but take forever. Especially with hand tools only. Find a friend with a shop press 20-30 bucks and they'll do it for you. Or show you how to do it.

my dads car is doing the EXACT same thing as your. it sounds like its coming from both wheels which makes my want to think it the tranny, and his leaks like crazy too. but now that i read this ill be sure to check the hubs first. hopefully if i buy a vx/cx tranny i can give mine to my dad if thats the problem. nothing wasted =D

At last I am finishing (I hope) this job. I have the knuckle off and have replaced the hub bearing unit. I have done the lower ball joint. Re-installed the axle seal. Unfortunately the parts shop sent me a poorly made and non-fitting upper ball joint and control arm assembly, so I am stuck until Friday because of the holiday. But soon, I might have this noise and drag beaten.

Solved! It was the hub bearing unit in the end! Got that solved, got the tranny oil seal better seated (no leak now), and replaced both ball joints on the wheel knuckle (which were cracking and one leaking a couple little beads of grease.

that's good news. my typical cruising RPM is 2500, I will attempt a 2000RPM cruise this week (other drivers will hate me) it I'd like to know the savings.

have you raised the top side and actually tried to shake the tires in and out from the top or sides? if they do, try to look behind the rim and see where the perform is arriving from.
