George Monbiot thinks that god is now funded by big oil for making it snow a lot when there is a climate conference on.

Maybe the big G is trying to send a message ?

The scientists believe that rising sea surface temperatures are to blame.
They believe that rising sea temperatures are driving the decline.

From scientists, I expect proof, findings, evidence.
Not beliefs.

Many scientists who believed in the Mexican swine flu of 2009 are now exposed to have or have had links with the pharmaceutical industry who made billions from the self-induced scare that turned out to be a complete dud, far less deadly than they claimed, and far less deadly than the regular seasonal flu.

Vested interests ? The main 'enquiry' into the issues at the CRU recently, aka Climategate although no gates were involved, was led by Lord Oxburgh

Quote:
He is honorary president of the Carbon Capture and Storage Association, chairman of Falck Renewables, a wind energy firm, an advisor to Climate Change Capital. He was chairman of D1 Oils, plc, a biodiesel producer, in 2007, and a director of GLOBE, the Global Legislators Organisation for a Balanced Environment
Yep, totally independent.

LOL

I'm always surprised that what we experience as the weather isn't the climate, but apparently, the weather elsewhere that we don't experience, is the climate and the proof of climate change ...

You may also appreciate this as well.

I have just cleared fresh snow in my back yard for the ninth day in a row. Powder lies 13 inches deep on my lawn: I probed it with a tape measure. Ten years ago David Viner, a climate scientist from (inevitably) the University of East Anglia, told us that within a few years winter snowfall would become `a very rare and exciting event’ and that `children just aren't going to know what snow is’. My children have seen more snow in Northumberland in the past 11 months than I had before in any year of my life.

That’s not a trend. It’s not climate change. It’s weather: just a cold snap. But that’s the point: the climate is just not changing very fast. We have now had a third of a century of man-made warming. This was meant to be the fastest bit – the curve is logarithmic – and yes, it has warmed, but not even enough to make winter noticeably different from 1978, let alone cause catastrophe.

Last week saw the coldest 28thNovember Britain has ever experienced, and Wednesday was the coldest 1st December. By contrast we have not broken a heat record for a particular date since 10 May 2008. Yet, with weary predictability, in October the Met Office’s shiny new £33m supercomputer said there was a high probability of a warmer winter for the east of England and Scotland, just as it did last winter and the one before, with a `barbecue summer’ in between. They should ask for their (or rather our) money back at PC World.

What are the money interests against us accepting that global climate change is real? Who is making enormous profits right now?

Guess what? If too much ice melts in Greenland, and the fresh water lowers the salinity of the surrounding ocean -- the Gulf Stream current could stop! It is already much slower and weaker than usual -- and guess what the Gulf Stream current does?

It keeps the UK much warmer than it should otherwise be! Look at Google Earth and line up the latitude lines of the UK with other countries...

Guess what happens when the Gulf Stream stops flowing (among many nasty results)?

The UK will go into an ice age. So, you are seeing the very real results of Global Climate Change.

Neil,

How did the Vikings settle in Greenland if the current glaciers hadn't retreated when they did ?

And then how do you explain why someone would sketch this picture of a frozen Rover Thames just a few hundred years later ?

We had a freak winter or two, when the gigantic volcano erupted in Southeast Asia.

If the Gulf Stream stops flowing, it will be frozen for a long, long time.
