I like it

cosmicgenius

I like your idea - very clever
how is it working?

I have had rust issues with my pans - fixed with a little spray paint
but thought you might have a lot of salt on the roads of Alaska

not too well

I wasn't going to say anything but, I lost 2 covers in about 2 weeks roughly 1000 miles of driving (glad they were cheap). however it was always the same wheel that it came off of so maybe bent rim? I ended up finding a threaded hole right in the middle of my front hub and back hubs so I was able to put a 3 inch bolt right in the middle of each pan to hold them on.....I haven't lost any that way

Make sure that you're not exposing the wheel bearings by using those holes.

how does plugging a threaded hole with a bolt expose bearings?

Threaded hole in center of hub = probably behind bearing dust caps.

ccrider -

Veryyyyy pretty. Elegant too.

Since I am paranoid and you are using one bolt, I would use "reverse thread" bolts on one side of the car in order to insure that they don't "spin off" at speed.

Does that make sense?

i drove it today and they were making noise when i hit bumps so i had to notch the pans around the wheel weights if they still make noise i will put like 6 blobs of silicone around the edges of the pans. i don't want to do it because it will be a pain to get off. i think the reverse thread is a good idea. I'm not sure what will have more force acceleration or braking.

...maybe a "ring" of velcro around the whole wheel-rim lip? Should provide both "connection" as well as "movement" capabilities???

Might be able to use nylock nuts to prevent them from coming off too... guess it depends on how often you expect to take them off.
