If the crash test ratings are good they'll be heavily advertised.

I understand that Edison2 don't plan to produce the car, but they'll try to license its technology to well-established automakers.

Yeah, I agree. What do you think of these rear slope comparisons :

It seems like both of them are at the end of the spectrum. 9.7 degrees seems too shallow and 14.8 degrees seems too steep.

EPA tests must be done by people with lead feet.

The edison 2 very light car already has a steel tube frame and seats 4.lol. The Xprize body panels are carbon fiber but the production one will probably be aluminum. With the long pointy nose and tail and with the wheels sticking way out on outriggers i see crumple zones on all sides to protect the car.

Exactly. I think it's an aspect people are forgetting. On this site, people are considering the car largely from an economy perspective, and end up disappointed. On some other sites I use, people are considering the car solely from a performance perspective, and being disappointed in that too.

But when you consider both performance and economy, the car is actually quite an impressive compromise, and at a decent price too.

They also look great on the road, IMO. Seen a couple around now (both in white) and they really stand out.

...now, if only we could get them (Detroit & EPA) to come up with an SAE-standard for "certified" MPG as they recently did for "certified" HP.

...I can dream, can't I?

I think Darin's idea of requiring manufacturer's to post mpg vs speed charts is a great idea. Not only will it show the massive effects of aerodynamics, but it will show what a car can actually do.

...and it would also show the value of 6- and 7-speed transmissions!

If you guys think the extra 1000 pounds of fat in the form of government mandated structural enhancements and safety equipment is bad, just wait until MADD succeeds in making OEM onboard breathalyzers standard equipment.

How long will it be before OnStar is required, and then required to tattle (or govern, or disable)?
