Didn't SVOBoy tuft test his CRX at one point and find attached flow to the end? I think the CRX's hatch angle is just about optimal for minimum drag.
The folks who point out that the CR-Z is a sporty car and doesn't need to be as efficient as an Insight-II are right, though it doesn't stop me from being disappointed that Honda built a car that, with a few tweaks, would have been very interesting to an FE enthusiast.

SVOBoy's CRX is a 2nd gen. The picture is a 1st gen CRX. I was going to go to tirerack.com to pull a side view of a 2nd gen CRX for further info, but I got lazee.

The difference between Honda today and up until about 1992, was the old man was alive, and he had the cohones to build what he thought would be popular and wait for the public to understand they actually had an option versus the regular rubbish they were buying.
Now they are slaves to their marketing research and job protection.

Probably not going to happen. First, none of our older cars would have the equipment, and it is vanishingly unlikely that the laws could enforce the installation of new equipment in them.
Second, there was an effort in 1973-74 to require seat belts to be fastened before the engine of a car could be started. It lasted just about one year before it was repealed, which is pretty fast in gov't circles. It didn't work then, and I think there are still enough people around who remember the attempt to keep something that similar from being required now.
But it is a nice dystopian idea...

True, but then the people who'd buy one on this site would likely tinker with it until they improved the economy anyway - just like people on more performance orientated sites will likely get stuck into tuning it. It's horses for courses.
I mean lets face it, there are people on Ecomodder trying to make the 1st Gen Insight more efficient... some people are never happy, are they?

I'm waiting for the local Honda people to let me have a test drive.
Reviews here are mixed - some praising the assist system others noting that the car becomes far less entertaining when the batteries run out - of course a hypermiler would probably conserve them until needed. The Insight itself has received mixed reviews too - a lot of people criticising some aspects like the start stop system needs you to keep your foot on the brake causing 'red rage' to the person behind. Plus the jiggly ride and awful interior.
It would be interesting if Honda made a stripped out CR-Z without batteries and sold it for less. I would be in the queue to try that one.

...unfortunately, if Honda-marketing is anything like GM-marketing, they only cater to the 80-85% portion of the market these days...the other 15-20% are not 'worthy' of their interest.
...for instance, as the automatic transmission moved up to >80% popularity level, GM started making them standard equipment on some models and totally eliminated availabilty of a manual transmission.
...unfortunately, the "eco" movement hasn't reached the 80% level (yet).

Hello -
Ok, here's the 2nd-Gen CRX. Smack-dab in the middle with a 12.1 degree slope.
