This shouldn't be in the unicorn corral.
It definitely should be in the unicorn category because we haven't seen any extensive real world MPG testing. Leading up to Power Tour he had months in which to do so. All I ever saw was one exit to exit freeway test. Hardly comprehensive. I also didn't see a report on his mpg while on Power Tour, which would be an excellent event to collect highway mileage data. I'd be thrilled to see it work, but until I see real evidence and independent testing, I'm very skeptical of the 40 mpg claim. Everyone else should be too.

Also, you say he's not selling anything, but he cross posted the same video like 5 times and got a million views on a couple of them. That's a decent amount of advertising revenue on YouTube. He's already making money off of it. At this point pending further evidence, my assumption is that this is grift.

Seems easy enough to confirm or bust.
Might be something I could test on my firebird when I get the T56 back in it.

Love this idea. I don't have the setup or know-how to make this happen, let alone a vehicle to test it on (all my vehicles are EFI).

I was excited when I saw the video, but when I saw that he posted the one video and instead of doing more testing he just kept posting different versions of the same video repeatedly, my spidey sense started tingling. Like I said above, he has had more than enough time to test, and honestly, with the price of gas these days, all the incentive in the world to take advantage of the great mileage. That is, unless it's a BS clickbait prank video just for the lulz and/or the few bucks in ad revenue he's getting off of it.

videos

I've watched two of the videos. I'm a fan of what he's done.
I'll watch all of them, and try to piece together the particulars.
As I've never owned anything but a 21-inch push-type mower, the title threw me off at first.
Riding mowers are a completely different animal.
One of the qualifiers for my CRX's 52-mpg, was the 12-valve head, and tiny ignition pre-chamber which lit off a rich mixture which lit off an adjoining lean mixture, allowing the car to cruise on it's 'primary' venturi.
You had to bury the throttle pedal to get into the secondary, while simultaneously down-shifting to get onto the cam. A real gutless-wonder!
If he's reading his sparkplug color he'll be able to check his jetting.
The famous 'vapor' carburetors all sacrificed power, speed, and utility on the alter of mpg.
Some guys I've known defeated their Rochester, Holley, and Carter 4-barrel secondaries, happy to loaf around at lower 'performance.'

My father in law was famous for this on his 440 powered Dodge Ex CHP police interceptor and a thermoquad.

I never understood his economy thinking: $500 dollar worn out car built for performance doing every stupid trick in Mother Earth news to try and get it to 20mpg. Premise and execution were suspect.

He retired and bought new a ford midsize that got 25 on a 4 banger, had A/C and cruise control.

Mother earth didn't have access to a wide band O2 meter and there were no six speed transmissions that would fit in a car back in the day.

I have a single barrel horizontal draft carb for an 18 to 21 hp mower.
Main problem is my odometer is broke. But I can probably figure it out.

Narrow band O2 will only get you really close to 14.7:1.
For best MPG we want at least 16:1.
