Capitalists dog-piled on the Socialist scheme. They did not see it coming.

Heyyy you guys

Mother nature shat all over my solar panels. This was golf ball size hail made from weapons grade clear ice. I have never seen clear hail before. If I do again it will be too soon.

How were only three of the nine panels affected? Or am I misunderestimating the pic?

Was the output affected?

Yeah 4 out of 30 were smashed. Yeah it effected them, smashed panel power output was reduced by half to 2/3.
All fixed now with bigger heavier higher voltage more efficient panels.

Perhaps bigger heavier, Si, but are they more hail resistant? Enquiring minds want to know.

I'm going from 3mm glass to 4mm glass so I hope so. Either way they're $80 each so if they get smashed it's not like I'm out $200 to $300 per panel.

It looks like the El cheapo used 295w 72 cell panels are beating the Samsung advanced higher efficiency 60 cell 315w panels.

' glass '

I had to break into Spirit, and I chose to shatter the slider window at the back of the cab.
I 'couldn't ' do it! It wouldn't break, as hard as I tried.
I finally 'jimmied' the framework between the two pieces with a pry bar, and got the latch to fail.
Toyota must have used some variety of Corning's 'Gorilla' glass.
My old ARCO SOLAR photovoltaics never suffered hail damage, but I don't know that they couldn't. We've had stuff come down in the state that was 7-inches across, at 120-mph.

berthub.eu/articles: The gigantic and unregulated power plants in the cloud -- Posted on Aug 19 2024
Quote:
If you had a control panel to switch off dozens of nuclear reactors simultaneously, you’d have to comply with all kinds of safety regulations, and inspectors would come by to check if you were doing it right. This applies also to large solar and wind installations, by the way.

Because inverters and solar panels at home are “ordinary” consumer appliances, there is no inspection and no legislation. This makes sense since a single installation can’t cause that much damage.

But because we didn’t pay attention, the management of those “consumer appliances” has now moved to just a few suppliers who, on sunny days, even measured individually, control a significant part of our power supply.
