A scan gauge is certainly the easiest way to find a sweet spot.

yep, you find the best MPG read out in the given gear. On a flat road hold speeds and see where you get the best MPG. For me it is about 48-53 (no wind) wind can change it up or down depending of direction.

It took a few early fill-ups to calibrate the SG2, but the first month I had the Escape,
I noticed flat road driving at 40mph=40mpg.

The old 1999 CRV 2L 5 speed-manual used to go into fuel-cut-off quicker, but this Ford
with it's 2.5L & 6 speed-auto can get better MPG in the city and much better highway MPG.

I've had this car about 13 months now and have burned about 100 gallons of gas.
So, I've been to the gas station about 12-15 times.

I think one way to save, is not to drive over to the next town, because they
have cheaper gas.. (My wife loves a bargain)..

LOL, nothing like burning a gallon to save two cents when you buy your next tank full.

The scan gauge is out for me, my car isn't electronic so a vacuum gauge is going to be all I have.

Weird thing about my sweet spot is it seems to be around 80 mph with the engine spinning about 3K rpm in my Maxima. Makes no friggin sense. Maybe if I had a stick shift instead of the slush box I could get better mpg at normal speeds, but I don't. Who'd have thought a 3L 190hp engine would be too much for a 3k lb car?

Shadetreemech - At steady speed, it's not too much engine for the weight. It's too much engine for the car's areodynamic drag with the current gearing.

You could easily do the limit with it on half the displacement and HP

I recall reading that some cars with a few cylinders to spare, actually do cut out some cylinders when they're not needed.

You bought a used scanguage for that new lunchbox "eco" thing?
You allegedly spent good money for all that and voided the warranty with a used aftermarket scanguage?

The bull' meter is hitting the red line.

Since when does plugging in a scangauge void the warranty????

That would be like having the non Kia shop clear a check engine light.

I can attest that he does run a SG, I encouraged him to get it and I helped him buy it (and install it).
