So far no one's really done anything stupid, and in traffic with lights, most people just stay back there once they've figured out I'm timing the lights.
I have to say I seriously doubt more than one a month have the brains to figure out you are timing lights. The average driver hasn't a clue, they don't have a friggin idea about anything on earth other than the fact that you have 100 feet between you and the car in front of you and they want to pass you so they can be 5 feet from it. You are stealing from them almost a second of their commute for goodness sakes. Don't you realize that by the time they get to where they are going they will save 12 and a half seconds if they didn't have people like us in the way.

The average driver really thinks they are going to get there faster if they are 5 feet from the car in front of them. They really think they can get there faster if they make it thru one of the 15 stop lights they go thru every trip. They REALLY think this! I am sorry, so few have a clue I just laugh at them as they pass.

I just stay with in 5mph of the speed limit and try to keep from slowing down other drivers or causing they to aggressively speed up. I find it to be a loss if I save a 0.25 of a gal but in turn force dumb drivers to use a collective 2gal more from my driving.

At what sort of speed do you drive ?

I'm doing the limit in 20, 30, 45 mph zones, as the limit is a more economical speed for me than anything below it.
But I'm doing 20kph / 12 miles under the limit on the motorway, nobody seems to be bothered so much as to start shaking their finger at me, even though traffic here is a fair bit more hectic than anywhere in the US that I've been (which includes Miami, Philly, Detroit, ...)

Listen, there is another lane. You think you are stopping something from happening because you speed up? LOLOLOL, those people drive aggressively every inch of their commute and you are not saving one drop of fuel by giving in to them.

I don't do anything unsafe, I pull to the right with my blinkers on when I am coasting to the corner, if I can't do that I don't coast quite as long. I am not going to be an out and out dick about it. But I'll be damn if I am going to ruin my plans because some jackass needs to be a quarter of second faster and thinks I should do it for him.

LOL!! Race tracks everywhere, expect on the street that goes by their front yard..

I think I know why people speed up to dangerous speeds. Adrenalin!
I remember what it was like the first time I ever put the petal to the metal. 120 MPH!
The adrenalin was pumping!! I was about 13 at the time.

In the Navy, I was a fireman for two years. Driving heavy fire trucks
fast takes some skill and it's scary when you have three guys hanging
onto a rail on the back-step.. And, you are only 17 years old!
I almost became an adrenalin junky! Loved fire fighting!

Back in the 1970s, I sent many hours on Rt-95 and learned that speeding
up and zig-zagging like a nut, only got you to work about 30 seconds sooner.
I got in the right lane, turned on the radio and slowed down.
Never was late for work..

Flash forward about 15 years, I was following a young lady (co-worker) in a sports car to work site, traveling on very crooked back roads.
She was very familiar with the route. I had never been there.
She suddenly dropped the hammer. As a joke, she was going to leave me totally lost out in the boondocks.
I was in my old 91 Plymouth Laser(/mitsubishi eclipse). I had excellent road holding tires.
I barley managed to keep up! About 12 miles later, when we pulled into the parking lot at the plant, The adrenalin was pumping again!
Zooming down an unfamiliar roads at unsafe speeds was just nuts.
I was mad at her and mad at myself.
Since that day, NO MORE adrenalin.. I've already had enough excitement in my life.
Don't need no more!!

The speed limit is 70mph and the min is 55mph, traffic is usually going 80-85 (even in the 13mile long construction zone!)

I usually go 60-65mph depending on road conditions and how windy it is (the more head/side wind there is the faster I have to go to maintain my mpg, weird huh?)

That makes no sense, you should go slower to keep the MPG, unless you are not at your sweet spot. What is you no wind sweet spot?

How do you find it? Are we talking using a scan gauge?
