The easiest way to go is to start with an IGBT six pack with built in drivers and overcurrent stuff. They even have those self-contained 6 packs that go up to like 600amps.

They have another iram that is for up to like 10 HP I think. Then you can go with the big dogs if you actually want to drive, and don't mind spending some money. haha:

I don't quite get the power requirements for the control section on the 600 amper, it looks like there are separate 15v connections for each igbt driver? Can it all be one 15v source or do they need to be isolated?

mrbigh, there are plenty of deals on ebay, here were TWO 450 amp 6 pack mods for $63!!! I blew it there, just one would have made a nice xmas present.

Whohhh!!! I have no intention of using that $860 bugger! I'm going to figure out how to make my own drivers, and use the cheap igbts on ebay.

I don't know why isolated drivers are preferred. But I've been told that it's what a guy needs to do. I'll look into that.

Back to topic:
Last night I threw an eBay search for the same seller and returned no merchandise for sale. If Paul will adopt this type of device, we will start cutting our troughs in the future auctions making some body very rich.
The dual IGBT's I have on hand, but this new devices are with built in drivers and, as you already know, require separate individual power supplies. Powerex have an Interface circuit for the Integrated Power Modules (IPM) with 6 integrated and isolated modular power supplies from a single source plus the necessary optocuplers for signal handling, a very handy developer's device, of witch we can "borrow" some technology to be applied to the Future AC 3 phase controller.

I'm just surprised that the ipm still has the isolated power supply requirement, that is the tricky part. I mean it is not short on power availability with the P/N connections, and could add a signal ground connector and have 6 signal inputs that take 5v and fire the associated IGBT upon application of 5v relative to signal ground.

Though they do go through some hoops for fault detection, etc.
