I have no idea atm freebeard; I have not read the study, which looks to be a 4th year thesis or some-such.
So atm it's an interesting? study/concept, maybe worth a 2nd look as and when time allows.

I still think keeping flow attached with DBD or fake feathers to minimize backflow/recirculation is likely the better option.

I do like the 'roof's in the shade' aspect, but as its closed on the sides it's only really going to help interior temperatures at (some) speed or when the breeze happens to be blowing in the right direction/s.
