What is it? Not an Urba Centurion?

I thought the next post more on-topic for the fineness ratio:

Looks like a cropped roof Fox Platform Ford Mustang, 65 smiles per gallon.

The terror of Woodward Avenue I posted in that thread because of it's longer rear deck may indeed be more aerodynamic than a stock Corvair, but my guess is the extra cooling negates any such gains.

Never mind. I'd read 85 MPG.

The Tatra-ized Corvette was interesting. I've made my way backward to page 2547. I like the Gremlin with a Hemi. Porsche 917/10 Cha 001:

I just learned about the Messerschmitt BF-309:

This picture doesn't show it well, but the variable flow oil cooler is modulated by the scoop extending and retracting in the air flow. Compare with the Mustang that has the same added drag whether the cooler is open or closed.

Many books claim that the Mustang radiator achieved actual thrust. Inspired by this, the builders of the Voyager world-circling aircraft wrote their own manual and got their cooling drag down to 20%.

A well known effect. I think the point stands that Messerschmitt found an incremental improvement. The lack of filleting would add drag but only when the duct is open.

Ahh, the Meredith effect seems to be speed-dependent. That could account for all the original research that the Voyager crew had to do, and their poor results.
