I'm still looking for the full version of the TV show Wheeler Dealer episode with the 1985 Ford Escort RS - Cosworth. The car starts out a Bi-Wing, ends up a Tri-Wing, they took it to a wind tunnel, no smoke, just scales, 25 extra pounds on the rear wheels. They met the original designer, he talked them into adding the middle wing as intended for the original road rally version but not on the street version.

Was this:

Now this:

I suspect this works similar to my proposed Porsche 911 Sponge Bob tail.

Ferrari 312 by Dennis Hoyt
https://silodrome.com/312-ferrari-dennis-hoyt/
Quote:
This sculpture was handcrafted from basswood, and features excellent suspension and engine detailing. It’s a signature Dennis Hoyt piece thanks to its combination of accuracy and the sense of motion it captures, and it’s physically larger than you might expect – measuring in at 27″ x 67″ x 12″. It’s due to be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s on the 6th of December with an estimated value of between $40,000 and $60,000 USD.
Cool beans man.

Similar aero-art:

I'd always seen side views so I thought she was holding a torch, not the Horsch logo.
Number #1 on Jalopnik's top ten listicle.

Some graphic artist does not understand wind tunnel airflow very well.

Interesting that they taped all the gaps and seams.

I saw that massive wing and said to myself; that's got to be one of those Pike's Peak cars.

Sure enough that's what it is.

Here's why the VW I.D. R Pikes Peak car needs such a massive wing

I talked to someone today who introduced himself as a European (?) who excitedly told me that the Dasher I had driven up in was derived from the NSU Ro-80. Here's the story on Autospeed:

AutoSpeed - The NSU Ro 80

I agree the longitudinal engine layout and Macpherson struts with the steering rack over the transaxle is the same as Audi used. But not the enigne and rear suspension. The Cd was 0.355.

Note the reattachment on the deck lid.

(This author has never seen any evidence than any other three-box cars of the era achieved attached flow on the final third of the car. Typically, any wool tuft pics are careful not to show this area!)
