Good point. The Insight dropped even the tenths decimal place once you passed 100 mpg. Slackers!

Little road trip to the outer banks of NC, 55.1 mpg, mostly 55 mph route 168 from the 64 loop around Hampton Roads, maybe 1/3rd Interstate at 65 mph. Included was a 20 mile crawl north to Corolla after crossing the Currituck Sound.

When we left to come home, I got her into 3dplane territory with 64 mpg until I got back on 168 headed north and west. When the speeds got to 55mph the mpg gradually fell below 60 (indicated).

My mpg matches the graph very closely, considering the factory gauge is probably 3-4% optimistic. Definitely need to keep average speeds below 45 mph to see mpg in the mid 60s, high 50s at 55, low 50s at 65, all without AC. Remarkably cool here for late May. Saturday morning it was barely 50 degrees just before we left. I've seen it break 100, 5 days out of 7, same week several years ago.

53.43 fuel log (here). B meter (car) is at 55.6, not reset since purchased = +4% or so.

All MPG instrumentation is inaccurate and always will be because of how they work.

You might be able to trim it via OBDII but probably worth getting an SG or UG or whatever the current fave instrument is - I always liked having average and instant together - to run alongside especially if you mod anything (grill blocks etc.) later.

I'm pondering a UG for the Passat but thats just a geeky thing.

3 of the first 5 refills, 677,678,679 watt hours per mile. Admittedly short fills but I like to get an idea of how accurate the gauge is reading. This one seems like each of the 8 "rectangles" is right at 1 gallon of gas with a 1.2 gallon reserve.

A true TRUE nerd knows about significant digits.

Tank fill up accuracy: gauge is real MPG + 2.0 mpg (true mean calculated from distance traveled vs gallons added). The std dev is 2.3 mpg (tracked over ~42k miles of fill ups).

It really has too many decimal places... the only thing the tenths column is good for is tracking rate of change. The instantaneous has it right... 5mpg increment blocks.
