yoyoyoda- I spent a year where in the summer it didn't get down to 40c until about midnight, and it was already up past that at around 8:00 am. Doing it without all that gear on would be a cakewalk, but that wrong way draining thing would just weird me out. No deal.

OK guys. I've started my new job and have been really busy. I haven't been on EM very much because of this.

So I come back and I'm like WTH happened, everybody is quibbling! First we've got this idea stealing issue, of which I'm still confused what happened, then people stealing gas money, then debates that were buried rise up again!

WTF, I'm gone for like a week and then it all goes down hill!!!

Two toilets, same maker from late 60's, same out, the water spins in opposite directions.

If you lived on the equator, would water not spin at all????

The direction can be influenced by design but not fully dictated by.... The hemispheres do dictate the direction. A passive drain in a tub has no influence and they are opposite for north and south.
You can spin the water the opposite way in a passive basin drain. It will always stop and turn the way it wants to after it reaches equilibrium.

Understand the size of a body of water that is needed to have the influence, it isn't gonna happen with a normal drain.

I learned this as an inquisative kid in the tub and the sink. Then science taught me why this happens.
I could be wrong. Did someone change the laws of physics and not tell me?

Coriolis effect

Edit:
I stand corrected.
According to wikipedia this effect can not be proven to be true at the scale we are talking.
Thanks for making me look this up.

Cool

Ive heard both and seen both. I googled it before posting, but said what the HAY.

I was a fan of whale wars and the episode where the captain of the addy gill that was sunk was taken prison on one of the Japanese ships. He said he was held in a bathroom and he would run water in the sink to watch what direction it rotated as it drained to tell when they reached the equator and was getting closer to Japan.

Now I'm not known to avoid one myself - at least I am self-aware - but I try to "play the ball and not the man" but I'm wondering if there is something in the water just now causing all these disputes ?

And more productively can we do something to avoid them ?

Or maybe its just me sampling at a bad time.
