"What crazy car project would you like to do?"
1. Get a regular diesel, and fit LPG to it. I'd like a small engine, like a 1.6D or a 2.0 litre, and see just how much fuel I'd save.
2. Get a beautiful classic with a big thirsty engine. Rip out the old engine, and make it go 100% electric.
3. Get another lovely classic, rip out the engine, and make it go electric but with a small battery. Install a small capacity diesel (like one from a Smart car), convert it to mix LPG into what sprayed into the cylinders, and make it run like a generator supplying power to the electric motors.

It might not be so bad to run it on E85. I'd just keep an eye for the ignition timing.

I've been run E85 in my '91 240sx since 2007...
The Gas Milage sucks, but the power increase is incredible. The Torque band became much wides, by about 1000 RPM and it pulls like a train up to redline...
And that is a fairly stock, 2.4L Nissan engine (232/232 cams, 9.5:1 Compression Ratio) with a custom intake, ram air, 4-2-1 stainless header and custom exhaust... and the base Timing is advanced to 27 degrees from 20...

A higher compression would be more suitable to run on ethanol.

I live on the left side, but I don't have a Lincoln convertible with the best convertible top ever, either.
Do you know about Cool Planet? They have a carbon sequestration process that produces 105octane gas-o-line as a by-product. The primary product is new topsoil.
Bow -- It's probably that 9.5:1 compression ratio. Alchohol likes high compression.
Edit: Like cRiPpLe_rOoStEr says.
