When BMW's twin went from flathead to OHV, the horsepower jumped from (from memory) 24 to 36hp. Big change in the width too. The flathead boxer is remarkably narrow.
The restricted breathing is why the flathead Ford V8 took so well to the GMC 6-71 supercharger. It leveled the playing field.

Flatheads can be almost as compact as a 2-stroke. But I'd still rather get a 2-stroke.

Since I bought my affordable dream car (03 Mercury Marauder soon to be supercharged), my crazy build would be getting a mint 92-94 Mercury Grand Marquis, and shoving a 5.4 DOHC Ford GT motor in it complete with twin turbos and the stock supercharger.
Compound boost for tons of power.
And it would be an awesome sleeper.

The supercharger would help to overcome turbo-lag. You might have heard about the Lancia Delta S4...

Submersible car.
Maybe a Messerschmitt KR-200 converted to an electric wet sub.

Compound boost is awesome.
And because it puts down ridiculous power.

I'm loving my turbo compound system on my 2.0L Talon. Full boost 45psi at 3500 rpm. Over 400 ft'lbs of torque at 3500 rpm. The cars pulls like a 500 CI big block, with no turbo lag. Lots of fun!!!

No offence personally to you, but why? There are no compatible needs for the two designs.
Everything that makes a goood aircraft, makes a bad car and visa-versa. and all things considered you could buy a very nice car AND a nice aircraft for less trouble.

Probably a non-GT trim Pontiac Fiero with some sort of diesel. Or, were I to go really crazy, keep the 2.5L Iron Duke and add some electric assist motor for a strange hybrid thing.
I would consider doing the same to a number of other vehicles. This combo just strikes me as a great commuter car during the week, and a fun corner carver on the weekends.
*I prefer the look of the non-GT version, plus the extra body panels and glass added weight.
