What's YOUR motivation for ecomodding

I do it to save money, also as a competition with my brother, to see who can spend less on gas for a given trip we make. I was winning for a while until I had to buy the Bruiser. Want to find me a 1st gen Insight once this job situation figured out, if i can. Another big part of it is that every dollar i don't burn through the tailpipe is another dollar I can spend on restoring the Edsel.

There are basically 2 ways to make driving fun and challenging: going fast, or going fuel efficient. Going fast is the rich man's pleasure. It is far more expensive for fast cars, fuel, maintenance, speeding tickets, potential accidents. Hypermiling is the poor man's pleasure. It's a ton cheaper than normal driving and more fun as well.

I am a bit of an idealist so there is no middle ground for me. I wanted the smallest, most basic, no power features, standard transmission car that can fit a giant inside. Very lucky for me, I discovered the Geo Metro and I got a car that is only 4 years younger than me and fit all my needs quite perfectly. <3

So probably... 80% A, 20% D. I do not care much about my emissions. Even though I am a biologist I hate the majority of "green" people who are just all talk compromisers, intellectually dishonest, and/or plain stupid.

I enjoy saving money at the pump, reducing the amount of gas acquired from OPEC countries, reducing my CO2 output and I enjoy the challenge.

A) Saving money 2% - I spend a LOT more money on groceries (and ethanol ) than I spend on gasoline and #2 middle distillate. And I'm single.
B) Reducing CO2 emissions 5%
C) Reducing pollutant emissions (CO, HC, NOx, PM, etc) 5%
D) A fun hobby 44%
E) Other (please specify) 44% - Bragging rights! When people ask me what I've done to my Mustang to exceed 30 MPG, I shrug and tell them, "I've driven it".

10% B) Reducing CO2 emissions - i'm still praying for the "entering a new ice age" theory, not a fan of being hot
10% C) Reducing pollutant emissions (CO, HC, NOx, PM, etc) - anyone who lives in a big city certainly knows the air isn't getting any better
10% D) A fun hobby - gives me more reasons to work on my car

I noticed the same thing. Not to sound ' holier than thou ', but WTF !

I have the impression now that you guys would rather save a buck than the world our children will inherit.

On a larger scale, this is just what we see in large corporations - selfishness and greed.

A handful of people reducing their emissions by a negligible amount will not "save" anything. The most effective way you can use your limited power to influence human life on a grand scale is probably via terrorism, military coup, sly political maneuvers and such.

The other problem is that "reducing emissions" mostly just means "hiding emissions". We can change their form, we can minimize the effects that are visible on a large scale, but pollution is still occurring whether we are self-deluded about it or not.

Hello -

One goal of this forum is to be all-inclusive. If the ECO in Ecomodder means economic to you then that's fine. If the ECO in ecomodder means ecology to you, then that's also fine. If it means both then all the better.

A forum is stronger if the members practice *mutual* respect towards each other's views, because more people thinking differently increases the possibility of a breakthrough solution that we can all share. People that all think alike tend towards the same solution.

Personally, I'm hoping a weekend road warrior can modenrize the fish carb into the fish injector, .

How is burning less gas not a good thing ecologically? Reducing fuel consumption almost by definition involves a reduction in emissions. All the "ECOs" can work pretty well together.
