Not to get the tread more sidetracked than it is, but the units of measure for emissions actually depend on how the certification takes place. It can be done on the engine, in which case the emissions are defined in brake specific values (e.g. g/kW-hr). It can also be done on the vehicle, in which case it's mass per distance (e.g. g/km). To make matters more complicated, the regs are sometimes a combination of engine certification and vehicle certification. Engine certification is also a combination of steady-state tests and standard transient cycles that are (supposedly) representative of the real world.
Anyway, I didn't really want a debate of what people feel SHOULD be the motivation for ecomodding--I asked what YOUR motivation was. :-)

I'd like to have polls without posts beyond the initial one. Just the raw data, please. But these kind of polls would need to have a "None of the above" as a last option. When none of the above wins, you'd get a sense that the questions in the poll were not up to snuff.

The other problem is that "reducing emissions" mostly just means "hiding emissions". We can change their form, we can minimize the effects that are visible on a large scale, but pollution is still occurring whether we are self-deluded about it or not.

Be careful not to fart. Soon the EPA will be monitoring your emissions.

And also "your"
"...just because you are vehicle..."
My answer is that I'm actually not ecomodding at the moment. My fuel is so cheap I don't care what I get, but the main reason is that my alternative fuels aren't metered at the pump (for now), so any improvements are invisible.
EDIT: On second thought, I AM ecomodding. I am burning less pump diesel than I would without alternative fuels. The main reason is to save $$$, but the second reason is that it is a project that keeps me interested/to prove that I can do it

Yep, and local councils here have used anti-terror laws to check if parents lived in desirable school catchment areas by following and spying on them.
We are governed by self-important, power-mad imbiciles, just like most countries.
However I think the remit of the EPA stops at the East Coast of the USA, so I'm not going to be checked on by them.

Ask Dimitri Skylarov or Manuel Noriega how far the US feels its jurisdiction reaches. Ask any Iraqi if the US minds its own business. Then think about what the EPA might do to you if they think the jet stream will bring one particle of your emissions to us.
