It's much safer to replace the fan with an electric one, than to remove it during winter. You never know when you'd be pulling some heavy load, and then a fan would still be needed.

Getting it really wet raises the grain also, doesn't need sandblaster and compresor. Some plywood comes from the outer blemish free part of trees and as such doesn't really have grain that heart...
