Here in Texas lawmakers are looking at adding a tax for EV due to no road tax on electricity. Looking at disposal of old batteries, the environmental problems with making them, and other unforeseen problems, I am not sure we will gain as much as we thought switching. I switched a city fleet to propane in the 90's then went back after retirement to visit. The LPG station was shut down due to the newer Fords running as clean on gasoline as on LPG just a few years before. I think other countries are the true problem...but we should keep looking at improving our power sources.

I basically am of the mindset that I will buy whatever reduces my insurance and registration taxes the most while being somewhat economical
Since there is no telling how high the gfgovernment will make
EV taxes and they Are already too high no way I can own. New one

EVs are a great form of local transportation, but many of the costs are subsidized such as lack of paying for infrastructure and other federal and state subsidies.
All major countries would need to be onboard for an effective strategy to reduce CO2, and weather or not that's even a good idea is very much debatable.

Let's suppose EVs were so great at all, for instance decreasing noticeably the incidence of respiratory diseases in places where they eventually become mainstream. Then, wouldn't it make sense to not charge them some road tax equivalent?

Other countries where the comparably much higher initial cost for so many energy-saving tech prevent them from becoming mainstream end up having a harsher challenge when it comes to air pollution. For instance those places in Asia where small motorcycles outnumber cars. Considering the 4-stroke gasser engines for both cars and motorcycles operate under the very same principles, it's quite pointless how much more lenient are the emission rules for motorcycles, even more nowadays that economics of scale led EFI to become mainstream on cars and to increase the availability of technical assistence.

Improving not only the power sources, but also how they perform, is a good approach.

The failed state of California and their top 7 worst cities in the US for air pollution can always use more electric vehicles.

And with so many claims that emission regulations are requiring a car exhaust to be cleaner than the air in Los Angeles, it becomes quite predictable the ICE is not so much of a problem at all.

I wouldn't go that far. We don't all want to be like LA.

They need to do something.
I believe they have had their own emissions standards for 50+ years and still in last place.
