Contact your local newspaper. They're always looking for a good relevant story. "Tired of prices at the pump? Driving a gas guzzler? Well one man...." It'd be very hard to pass up.

The most surprising thing to me is just how thorough your records are!

Considering the status of your emissions equipment, you might want to keep this one under the radar. That fuel savings could be very quickly eaten up by fines.

Daox, if you peer closely you'll see that, Dave, having painted

Experimental

on the front doors prior to this series of tests has, ah, covered that aspect.

I think your confusing me with Big Dave. We're both named Dave, both from Indiana, and both have diesel pickups, but we're different people.

Sounds good, but anybody can make up a fuel log.

Yeah, it does make me somewhat hesitant to attract more attention to myself. That being said, I'd LOVE to go to the media with the story about how the EPA fined a guy for modifying his 3/4 ton diesel pickup to get better mileage than a Prius! I'm sure that'd go over well with the public.

As far as the fines go, I've searched and searched and was never able to find a case where an individual who modified their own vehicle was fined--even though they technically can. That being said, I think the fine for an individual is like $250. Also, as I understand it, modifying your vehicle in ANY way that negatively affects the emissions, is technically illegal--even something as simple as changing the timing or adding a warm air intake.

I've heard of car modders getting fined before for removing CATs and stuff. I think all incidents have been from California where I'd guess they're a lot more strict about that kind of stuff than Indiana.

Fines for individuals can be as high as $2500 for each individual offense. I think I would be rather "forgetful" with that kind of information.
That being said it certainly demonstrates the fallacy of emission controls that destroy efficiency.
Great dedication to the objective!!!
