160,000 miles of aeromods and 1000's of dollars in fuel savings
I first started aeromodding my 1992 Honda Civic CX in 2005 after hurricane Katrina showed where gas prices could go and with no new inexpensive fuel efficient cars being sold at the time by the car manufacturers. The odometer was then at 390,000 miles. It has recently passed through 550,000 miles for a total of over 160,000 miles of driving with aeromods installed (and 42,000 miles of driving with the lean burn engine). In that time I have saved over $4600 in fuel savings over the mileage that the car would have had if left in its stock configuration. About half of that savings was due to hypermiling, the remainder was from the aeromods, which greatly improved my FE at normal highway speeds. Also 1000's of photos taken by passing motorists of the weird looking car.

Mike,
You've been up to 95 mpg, do you think a 100 mpg (US) tank is possible with the aerocivic ?
You might need to slow down a bit further for that to happen though
Amazing to see what 400$ did !
Even if the execution is a bit, well err ... crude.

That's a lot of miles and a lot of money saved. Good on you, man, and well done!

Do you have big pics of the car posted? I've got to get a closer look.

hi Mike, Great job and congratulations! You are a great example of what can be done to make a difference in fuel usage. You have also inspired others ( like me ) to use aero mods to augment their hypermiling.
Many thanks , L& S

Is the $4600 saved based off of the official MPG numbers or from your unmodded base MPG?

In a last minute revision, I added some fuel economy data from my vehicle and yours to a presentation I gave for a campus Earth Day event. I gave THIS presentation on Monday.
Apologies that I didn't ask to use your photo/information beforehand, but the Aerocivic is a beast of an example.

A 100mpg would definietely be possible, but not on my usual routes. I have no problem getting over 100mpg on flat roads in lean burn at speeds below 45mph, but I 'd have to drive on a flat rural route like the one in Oklahoma that Cleanmpg used to get their Honda Insight single tank distance record to do it.
