Man, I am impressed. You make me want to step up my game quite a bit. For the ROI you can't beat it. Big thumbs up for the effort.

That $4600 was taken from the fuel savings listed from the fuel logs for my cars in the ecomodder garage. My unmodded base mpg was 44mpg in the winter and 48mpg in the summer with my best tank at 52mpg. I initially used hypermiling techniques to get it up to 54mpg in the winter and 62mpg in the summer but only if I kept speeds under 55mph and tried to spend most of my time at 40 to 50mph. Aeromodding set me free of these speed limitations and extended the range of speeds at which I could still get good FE so now I can get over 60mpg on 80mph trips on the interstate and over 80mpg on 65mph interstate trips.

I saw that you put a lean burn engine in your civic. Have you done anymore engine performance mods (like a high flow air filter or headers) or are you just using the aero dynamics to increase fuel mileage?

Jeff, every time I look at your car I think WOW, look what some guy did on his own with a little bit of knowledge and the will to excel. Then the tinkerer in me thinks what it would look like if a person lifted the dimensions and shape to create a professional and sleek equivalent as if it came from the factory like that. Then I imagine a whole lot of them going down the freeway and wonder how it would change the world.

What advice would you give to someone that has a stock 91 CRX HF sitting in the driveway to be modded? What order would you do the mods? Do you think the engine would lug with 165/80R15 tires?

Maybe you should consider donating it to Bob Lutz, so his engineers can reverse-engineer it, and put some AeroVolts on the road that'll meet that 42mpg CAFE goal
Bob Lutz: A CAFE level of 42 mpg is "totally ridiculous" — Autoblog Green
How about that Bob ?
A 20 year old Jap car can handsomely beat 42mpg by a fair margin - say another 42 mpg !
The technology is available to make them, why not use it ?

Oh I see, you think having fuel efficient and cost effective vehicles would make the world a better place, huh?
Making people happy in their rolling spaceships getting 100 mpg, huh?
Utilizing tools that are easily available, huh?
Well HMPFFFF!
It's that common sense thinking and caring for the consumer that is not going to fly here and we will not stand for it! If everyone had 100 mpg cars, my portfolio would suffer!
"Excuse me, sir, your microphone is on."
Oh..........
Another G&T please?

An other way to look at your savings is with repect to the average fuel consumption of aprox 20mpg. 71.82mpg/20mpg = 3.591, so that your savings with repect to the average driver is $4600 x 3.591 = $16518! and this does not include the savings due to reduced wear and tair...
An interesting thing about averages is that 50% of drivers get less than 20mpg!

Just a stock lean burn engine with no mods done to it. The increased fuel mileage is due to reducing Cd, reducing rolling resistance, installing lean burn engine, and hypermiling techniques.
