I turned the idle down to 600 rpm's, it was up at 1000 because the car didn't like to idle. Seafoam is great. Idle is great, just need to get rid of a high rpm miss and she will be 100%.

Great part about this car is everything is adjustable, the bad part is everything is adjustable,

Got her fixed about a month ago, but inadvertently cleared my trip OD. I removed the A.C. condenser and the lower dash panels, dropped another 25 or so pounds.(speakers are heavy,sub and 2, 4" ers.) Just recently filled her up, so next tank in a couple of weeks.

I am on the hunt for a cheap, kinda low mileage (100k)1zz (corolla) motor. At 130-145 HP depending on the model it came out of this motor should drop an additional 150-200 lbs and increase HP by 25-40, probably more because my engine doesn't run right. Plus get better economy due to a 1.8l modern F.I. system vs 2.4l 1gen F.I. system.

Still have alot of work to do on this car...

Is the 1ZZ a drop in physically? Obviously wiring will need to be done.

I agree, that would be a very nice upgrade.

Physically there is a ton of room. Others have swapped ford small blocks an others have swapped the Toyota 3.0 straight 6, also the Toyota V8 with some creative headers. So even if the 1.8 is physically larger, I have no doubt it will fit.

If you're going for all out mileage (which I just assume you aren't since you're modding a Celica, not a Tercel or Geo Metro), you could consider the 1NZ-FE. You drop down to about 100 hp, but you'd get better fuel economy out of it. Otherwise, the 1ZZ is a good choice. Either engine should be very easy to find.

Yeah I want to improve all aspects of performance in this car, but still be very/more reliable than it currently is. So with a combo of lighter, newer technology and smaller displacement I hope will improve mpg's and make the car even more fun than it already is on a twisty back road.

Funny you say reliability, the 1NZ is supposed to be a lot more reliable than the 1ZZ. If you get a 1ZZ try to get a 2003+ one to get the revised oil rings and pistons, early ones burn oil and a lot of engines poop out.

As a last resource, if the stock ECM and dashboard from the Corolla couldn't be used, it's still possible to use some random aftermarket programmable ECM.
