I hate to do this, but I am going to have to say my obligatory comment whenever you get a new eco car: ahem...EV conversion.....ahem.
Now that that's out of my system, I am excited to see what you can do with the Metro!

Really? I've never seen a 1995+ Metro without both front and rear bars. Was the Firefly version even less equipped than the Metros?

Looks like I might have found a killer deal on a full set of new tires (with wheels).
4x114 13" Steelies with new tires - $100

sway bar oops & curb weights
OOps - my bad. Just checked, and the Flea has a rear bar. I was probably thinking of the ForkenSwift (prev. generation car).
In comparing notes with Tim, GM Canada has wildly different curb weights for the '98 Firefly (815 kg / 1795 lbs) vs. the '99 Metro (845 kg / 1895 lbs). No idea what's going on there, but looks like a mistake somewhere.
Edit: yup the kg -> lbs conversion is wrong in the Metro figures given. It works out to 1862 lbs , which is pretty much what Edmunds says for the '99 (1865).
Still not sure why the '99 would weigh that much more though.

Haha, I really wish I had the cash to build an EV... perhaps someday.

My civic has held up extremely well considering its age and mileage.

Seems redundant that they even came with sway bars at all. I would probably just ditch them both if you are scrounging for every pound lost for efficiency
$1200 sounds like a good deal for a project car, I'm sure within a year that car will have paid for itself

Oh yeah, it'll actually pay for itself the instant I sell the Sunfire. I'll be selling the Sunfire for the same or a bit more than the price I bought the Metro for. The Metro really was a want, not a need. I just didn't like driving the Sunfire with its auto transmission. If it would have been manual, I probably would have kept it. The extra mileage is just icing on the cake. It'll probably save me ~$400 a year in gas if I had to guess. Insurance is quite probably lower too.

I love how my Civic corners. Does the Metro corner equally. I just imagine someone removing them, driving once, and hurriedly reinstalling them.
Do I have sway bars?

The Metro's handling is not often compared to a Honda's, no.
