I've been doing some more thinking (I know, dangerous).
This is the true "2-Part" concept (see below).
I diverted from the simple bottom wedge concept (see very first red pen sketch) when I tried to fancy it up.
This may have clouded the concept, and has now lead to realization that 5-Part cars exist now in racing, and 2-Part cars be our racing car past.
The True 2-Part concept below (pretty much ignore the white mark-up's)
Industrial Design - Transportation pictures by kach22i - Photobucket
The more I carve into the 2-Part car, the more it becomes a 5-Part car. The five parts are; 4 wheels and 1-teardrop bubble canopy.

If I pursue this 5-Part car design course, it may get filed under the category of "open wheeled" cars if I go too far.
A concept below following that route.........25 hp pancake motor at each wheel.
I have given up on the open wheel thing after reading many posts in this forum. However, adding a ground plane floor and tear-dropping the wheels could have the same end result (a 5-Part Car).
5-Part car example:

The CD-Panhard LM64 raced at Le Mans and had a top speed of about ~155MPH using a 2-cylinder 1L engine. The Cd is reported to be as low as 0.12.
I'd say it is low drag.

Remarkable car, and good looking in my opinion. Hard to imagine a race car having such good Cd numbers.
If I were to pick a race car to model after (or be inspired by) I would like to know the Cd, hopefully without the massive rear wing and a few of the other aero down force creations which I would not need on the street.
Banned Mooncraft GT300 to become road car

Banned Mooncraft GT300 to become road car | Racecar Engineering
Quote:
Super GT’s most controversial car, the Mooncraft MC/RT-16 Shiden is to become an extreme one off road car after being banned from the Japanese series.
When Mooncraft took the wraps off of it’s Riley Daytona Prototype based Shiden it immediately sparked outcry from rival teams with more conventional cars, but the car continued in the GT300 class for five years before being banned ahead of the 2012 season. Mooncraft boss Takuya Yura had planned to build a road car version in 2005 but the Super GT organisers said that it was not required. The road going version of the Shiden will be on the street later this year.

So far, no luck in finding the Cd of the above/below car.

Why was it banned? Was it significantly better? It does look rather aerodynamic, though a subtle narrowing of the rear track would help.
The cab forward shape reminds me of the new Audi R18. I wonder what the vents just ahead of the front wheels are for?
Here's another photo from Wikipedia:

I don't know, but I will be looking into it.
Mooncraft has done some pretty crafty looking cars before.

EDIT........this article is several pages long, a nice cut-a-way too.

The DP-G3 follow up car by Riley may not have all the restrictions put on it, as it looks more conventional, yet retains a little of it's Mooncraft roots (in the front, not the back).

Strictly speaking, Shiden is not a GT car. It is because road going version is not produced after all.
Instead, Mooncraft produced the Shiden Jr. based on the K-car. The cabin of the car was produced by using the same molding as Shiden. There is a racing version of Shiden Jr., too(based on the formula car).

I've gone soft on this version of it.
This is more like it.

I love the concept! It has a elegant simplicity to it. The one thing i wonder about is the rear wing. The horizontal position would add significant drag to produce down force BUT if it is intended to be a passenger car then this down force may be overkill and you may be able to reduce drag by placing it at a less aggressive sloped angle and teardrop shape. Certainly a point of tuning biased on intended speed and weight.

George, I'm really enjoying the reference shapes you are finding and posting... thank you for those!
While I couldn't design my way out of a paper bag, I know what looks good when I see it and all your references are awesome! I enjoy watching your design evolving based on those designs.
