Oddly, there is a link to Darin's Boattail mod, as covered on WiReD.com, firmly placed at the top of your "Aero News and More" section of links on the bottom left corner of the blog entry you listed in the link there.

Small world?

Yah - that is OK though - while the link is there - that is from the googles 'blogger news' links. Also - if you click the header texts on that area - you can get other stores on some of the other choices.

I just put up that story now because it fit real good with my core theme - and - it was only a couple days ago when it came out - and the news links will change - but I liked this one!

The last time I came by his town, a year ago last August - I tried to connect - since we both have Geo family EV's, but I missed him. Talked again on the phone later.

The Trip was a return from Ottawa - I think I had not got the Truck yet -still driving the Chevy Optra Wagon at that time, and test drove another gent's Original Honda Insight he was considering selling. My trip to Ottawa was for some help on some things for my electricfly!

EV's & Aerodynamics are brothers or maybe cousins!

A Lot of people convert Trucks to EV's- and I might do the same to mine - off lease. But - reducing the power required to push the 'boat' means less batteries or more range too! there is one thing - I was wondering - anybody cleaning up motorbikes like this?

Someone on here did it, actually, but he wasn't impressed with how the budget build turned out, I take it. The performance was on-par with a 50CC motorcycle, he says.

You can find that build here:

If I can't get the TwinStar to run properly (won't start again), I may end up doing something similar.

If it's a short-bed she may be a tad bit too aggressive .As Frank mentioned,a tuft test would help.
The Texas Tech research demonstrated that shortbed/longbed aero had to be respected,as they were quite different animals.

Thanks for all the replies on this project! The Lease is over on the Dakota, and I returned it to it's owner (Chrysler Canada).

However - I still have the Electricfly project, and am in the works to do a little Aero Mod Event on it - Details and invite - Here: The First electricfly Event - "Electricfly Aero Mods" - Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum - EcoModder.com - April 10th, 2011!

I know you listed everything in Kilometers and such, but If i did it right, you stated that 10 liters over 100 km, so that's like 23 MPG?

Also... if you returned the truck, what are you doing with the cap? I live near Chicago, and wouldn't mind picking it up and glassing it after tweaking it a bit.

My needs are met currently with a FLAT fiberglass cover (need to lock up about $3000 of saws/tools at work and soft covers have been ripped up by robbers before) so making this work for me would be pretty sweet! Especially incorperating a lock mechanism.

‪Light Weight AeroCap Wind Tunnel testing‬‏ - YouTube

Here is some of my wind tunnel tests... more details are under success stories..and wind tunnel.
I think i'm getting 3mpg more on the highway, i need to get more data to validate this..it is less noisy. And it tilts up from the side for easy acces, tailgate is still usable too. It does get hot, i tried just using the double sided tape the window material came with, but the 100+ heat was to much. The edges need to be duct taped("clear style"). I may go to the boat shop this week and see how much it would be to shrink wrap it with the white stuff.
