I didn't make it obviously, but am thankful for what you have done.

There are MANY lessons here.

I think there is a market for SERIOUS motorcyclers who are performance oriented to streamline their bike.

Hi Craig. I wonder if there is any way that you might help those of us that want to ride with you in Ohio and camp at the track. Your Vetter fuel economy challenge will take place on Friday so I would need to travel from Syracuse, NY on Thursday and camp overnight, Thursday night. But, the normal check in for camping on a Vintage days pass is Friday. I called the track to see if I could check in on Thursday evening but they said unless I had a team pass, or AMA credentials I would have to also buy a pass for the previous weekends events which would add another $125 just to camp for the one extra night.
.
Is there any way you can call the track and use your pull to get those of us that are coming in on Thursday special permission to camp for the extra night using our Friday pass?

I can not believe i missed this:

Freedom Machine - Fuel Economy -Chap 37

SOMEONE BOUGHT THE HYPERROCKET?!?!?!?

I was ready to buy the thing when the guy listed it 2 or so years ago, but had no way of getting in contact with him. Glad to see it went to a worthy owner!

Upcoming Vetter Challenge at Mid Ohio

i have no way to get you camping earlier. That said, let me clue you in as to what the Challengers will be doing... where and when.

We will be at a private meeting at 5 pm, Thursday evening July 19, at the parking lot behind the Comfort Inn Splash Harbor, 855 Comfort Plaza Drive, Bellville OH 44813. You are invited. Bring cold beer.

We will meet... get to know each other... discuss the route and rules, etc.

2012 Vetter Challenge rules

My wife, Carol will be on hand with her 4 bags of groceries to confirm that you can carry her groceries acceptably. If you cannot carry groceries, you can still ride. You cannot be considered as a winner. Read the rules above.

We will meet the next morning Friday:

8:30 AM Vetter Vintage Days Fuel Economy Challenge Staging (Ride Staging/False Grid)
9:00 AM Vetter Vintage Days Fuel Economy Challenge (100 mile ride)
11:30 AM Vetter Vintage Days Fuel Economy Challenge returns to AMA/HOF Tent

The route will be less than the 100 miles of last year. I have Grand Marshal duties at Vintage Days. This should make the electric folks happy.

Craig

I'll try to get a room there for the first night.

Where are you meeting for the morning ride? At the track?

My phone was dead off and on so the only photos I got of the streamliners were the couple I took at the 1/2 way break.
Craig Vetter on the left.

Alan's bike on the left is sporting the new nose that Craig is selling. It appears to be the calmest bike in the group from buffeting on the highway around trucks. The silver diesel with the salt flats bodywork was the worst in rough wind but best on fuel at 136 mpgUS. Vic's green campaign sign machine did well on fuel but required some impromtu surgery to keep it cool during the 105F temps he and Alan rode through on the way to Ohio from California.

My "plank" style luggage system may actually improve the aerodynamics of my red CBR250R while carrying all my camping gear. I got 105 mpgUS.

Wow! 105 without streamlining? Very impressive even if you were (undoubtedly) flat against the tank. Was this with the 4 bags of storage attached?

Thanks for pictures! I can see where the tank bag and rear bag would definitely help the air flow. I use plastic wastebaskets or tool boxes behind the seat on my pedal bikes.

I was late to the check in so was never fitted for the groceries but probably would have been close with 90 liters on the back and 6 more on the tank. I was carrying 70 pounds of gear as pictured and used my "comfortable" touring tuck with the stuffed tank bag supporting my solar plex.
